You\u2019re looking at a standard PTFE seal and wondering, \u201cDid I ask for the wrong stuff?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The debate of <strong>Virgin vs. Filled PTFE<\/strong> isn\u2019t just about color or cost. It\u2019s about physics. It\u2019s about how a material behaves when you smash it with 1,000 psi and spin a shaft against it at 5,000 RPM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">~\uc5d0 <strong>\ud14c\ud504\ub860 X<\/strong>, we\u2019ve seen enough melted, extruded, and shredded seals to know that \u201cstandard\u201d specs usually don\u2019t cut it. If you are designing a static dust boot or a cap that sees no load and no friction, Virgin PTFE is perfect. It looks clean, it\u2019s cheap, and it works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But for <strong>\uc790\ub3d9\ucc28 \uc530 \ube44\uad50<\/strong> in dynamic environments (crankshafts, cam shafts, transmission pistons, suspension struts), the filled grades pay for themselves by surviving the warranty period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Note on Surface Finish<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is something people forget. If you switch from Virgin to Filled, you might need to adjust your shaft surface finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>\ubc84\uc9c4 PTFE:<\/strong> Likes a very smooth finish (Ra 0.2 \u2013 0.4 \u00b5m).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\ucda9\uc804\ub41c PTFE:<\/strong> Can actually benefit from a slightly rougher finish (Ra 0.4 \u2013 0.8 \u00b5m) to help establish that transfer film I mentioned earlier.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the shaft is <em>too<\/em> smooth, the filled PTFE might just slide over it without depositing the transfer film, leading to higher friction and heat. It\u2019s a delicate balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wrapping It Up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Choosing between <strong>Virgin vs. Filled PTFE<\/strong> isn\u2019t about which material is \u201cbetter.\u201d It\u2019s about matching the material to the abuse it\u2019s going to take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\uc0ac\uc6a9 <strong>\ubc84\uc9c4(Virgin)<\/strong> for static, chemical-heavy, low-load spots.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\uc0ac\uc6a9 <strong>Glass Filled<\/strong> for general wear resistance and heavy loads (watch the shaft hardness!).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\uc0ac\uc6a9 <strong>Carbon\/Bronze<\/strong> for high heat and high pressure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t guess.
